Tinnitus is a sound that only you can hear: ringing, hissing, buzzing or whooshing. Around one adult in seven has it some of the time, and for most it fades into the background. For some it does not, and it can affect sleep, concentration and mood.

What we do

The first appointment lasts ninety minutes. We test your hearing, because most tinnitus comes with some hearing loss, even if you have not noticed it. Then we talk about the noise itself: when it is worse, what helps, how it affects your sleep. You fill in a short questionnaire that we repeat at each visit, so we can both see whether things are improving.

Sound therapy

Silence makes tinnitus louder. Sound therapy fills the quiet with a gentle background: a bedside sound generator, an app, or, if you also have hearing loss, hearing aids with a built-in tinnitus programme. Most patients notice a difference within six to twelve weeks.

When to see your GP first

If your tinnitus is in one ear only, pulses in time with your heartbeat, or arrived suddenly with hearing loss or dizziness, please see your GP before booking with us.
